Digital photos printing is getting more and more popular. People still enjoy holding photo paper prints in their hands in addition to viewing digital photos on their computer screens. Photo prints cost money but there are ways to get them free.
Digital photos can be viewed on many devices such as computer screen special digital photo frame devices printed on mugs or mouse pads or other products. But traditionally photos were viewed printed on paper and digital photos can be printed and viewed in he same way.
Taking digital photos and displaying them on your computer screen is virtually free. For that reason people that use digital cameras tend to take more digital photos than people that use old film cameras. Digital photo prints however are not free and each print copy has a cost associated with it. If you print your photos at home then the cost is a result of the purchase price of the home photo printer and the cost of the ink and paper used for each print. Digital photos can also be printed using one of the many online services such as Snapfish and Shutterfly. When using those services the cost of the prints is much easier to calculate as you know exactly how much you are paying for each printing job that you submit. Usually the cost is a combination of the actual printing cost quoted in cents or dollars per print and the cost to ship the photo prints to you home.
Some sites offer in-store pick up like for example Walgreens in which case the cost of the digital photo prints is only the cost of the photo printing as there is no shipping cost. Other services like Snapfish offer low shipping prices or even free shipping for big photo printing orders.
Many online photo printing services also offer free printing trials. Usually the number of free prints is between twenty to fifty and most services like Snapfish would ask you to just pay for the shipping. Free trial is only available for new users and new users are usually defined by a combination of the shipping address information and the payment method they have used or in other words their credit card and name information. Although you can not print an endless number of free prints in this way you can still enjoy a large number of prints. If lets say you use free trials on ten digital photo printing web sites you can end up with somewhere between two to four hundred free prints.

If you ever opened an old photo album you are probably aware how old photo paper prints look like. Yellowish and faded colors are just one symptom of photo paper aging. The digital photos era promises photos that can survive a lifetime and more.
Old photo paper prints age pretty fast. Dust sunlight and other unavoidable environmental conditions make the color fade and the paper to change color. Heat and temperature changes also contribute to color changes and to the paper losing its flat shape. Other human factors like greasy fingers add their part to damaging photo paper prints.
Digital photos on the other hand are bits and bytes stored on a computer file. For as long as the digital photo file is available it can last forever and it will never lose its quality. If you like to print your digital photos then the digital photo paper prints will age like the old film negative based paper prints but if you are smart enough to keep the original digital photo files you can always reprint the photo at any time to get brand new photo paper prints of the exact original quality.
So digital photo prints are great they can be copied an infinite amount of times without any quality loss and they can be printed an infinite amount of time without any quality loss either. Digital photo files do not age and if you can open the digital photo file in a thousand years from now it will still be fresh and the exact quality as it is today.
But digital photo files are not free from harm. Although they don’t lose their quality there are other risks that can make them either unusable on not readable. Digital photo files are stored on digital media. Digital media is a physical device that usually utilize magnetic fields in order to represent the digital photo files pixels values. Magnetic fields can change due to environmental strong magnetic fields or other reasons. When they change the data in the file changes and the digital photo file is lost.
Like any other physical device digital media can also be physically damaged or lost. You have all heard about disk crashes but hopefully have no experienced one. Disk crashes are physical failures of the digital media physical storage device. When a disk fails some data might be salvaged but more likely than not most data including the digital photo files is lost.

There are two kinds of digital photos that people take. One is utilitarian these are photos that have a specific purpose to document and capture a specific event or milestone in life. Wedding and birthday digital photos for example are such photos as they serve a very specific purpose. The other kind of digital photos that people take is digital photos for artistic and esthetic beauty purposes. These are photos that capture emotions art and beauty.
Utilitarian photos are easier to shoot since even if the digital photo is not perfect in terms if lighting and composition it can still serve its goal of documenting an event. If a digital photo of a kid blowing his birthday cake candles is a bit blurry it is bad but it is not such a big deal since when looking at that digital photo the main purpose is to remember that moment.
Artistic digital photos that express beauty and emotions are harder to take. First the composition is harder since there is no easy to describe scene that needs to be captured. Second the photographic parameters such as lighting angle and composition are very important since they greatly influence the digital photo beauty and artistic qualities. These digital photos are also harder to shoot since coming up with what subjects or object to photograph where and how is hard.
There are some ideas for how you can extend your current digital photography opportunities. For example open magazines or different photography books and look at what photos other photographers took. This can give you ideas for new scenes new angles and new lighting effects. You do not need to spend money buying such magazines or book instead you can go to the local public library and spend a few hours browsing through them.
The other place to find ideas is in art galleries. Go and look at photo galleries from different artists. It is also useful to look at paintings and sculptures and other forms of art which can provide inspiration for ideas although they are not using the same medium.
